Recognition of qualifications

In addition to translating your qualifications, applying to any institution of higher education requires an Irish recognition of your qualifications. This document is free of charge.

NARIC, in partnership with QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) offers the opportunity to obtain the Irish equivalence of your degree. This document is entitled “Advice on the Academic Recognition of Foreign Qualifications in Ireland”.

To get it, simply click here and pick your degree using the integrated search engine. Once you are on the qualifications page, you can access the “Comparability Statement” and download it. It is this document that you must attach to your application file.

NARIC refers to most qualifications issued in the whole world.

However, some degrees may not be listed. In this case, you will need to fill out an application form to send to QQI.

The following documentation is required :

  • Certified photocopy of the qualification (degree, diploma, certificate etc.) in its original language;
  • An official translation of the qualification into English;
  • Certified photocopy of transcripts / mark sheets / list of subjects passed;
  • An official translation of these transcripts;
  • Documentation in support of name change (if applicable);
  • Documentation regarding your undergraduate qualification (if applicable).

  In addition to your translated transcripts and the recognition of your qualifications, universities will require a proof of your ability to follow classes in English. Often, you will have to obtaining a certain score at IELTS or TOEFL tests, or a letter of recommendation signed by a competent person or organisation.
